Vaihtoehtoiset talliratkaisut ja ulkokatokset

Abstract

Tutkimme työssämme pienten pihattojen, siirtotallien ja ulkokatoksien sopivuutta hevosten pitopaikaksi, joko yksinomaisena ratkaisuna tai lisätilana. Tarkoituksenamme on kehittää omia tallejamme sekä tarjota tietoa muille hevosalan harrastajille. Vaihtoehtoisten talliratkaisujen ja ulkokatoksien tarkoitus on lyhentää hevosen terveyden kannalta hankalaa sisätallikautta, helpottaa hevosten hoitamista ja tuoda edullista lisätilaa.

Selvitimme työssämme hevosen lajinmukaista käyttäytymistä ja hyvinvointia. Otimme selvää tallirakentamista säätelevistä määräyksistä sekä ympäristö- ja eläinsuojelumääräyksistä. Perehdyimme aiheeseen liittyvään tutkimustietoon. Keräsimme käytännöntietoa haastattelemalla eläinlääkäreitä, hevosalan eri ammattilaisia sekä siirtotallien ja ulkokatoksien valmistajia ja jälleenmyyjiä.

Erilaisia talliratkaisuja suunniteltaessa tärkein asia on hevosten hyvinvointi. Mahdollisuus runsaaseen vapaaseen liikkeeseen edistää hevosen terveyttä. Rakennusmääräykset on hyvä selvittää omasta kunnasta, sillä ne vaihtelevat paljon eri kuntien välillä. Pihatot ja ulkokatokset mahdollistavat hevosten runsaamman liikkumisen, mutta eivät yleensä toimi yksinomaisena ratkaisuna, sillä ongelmana niissä on valmennettavien hevosten pesu ja kuivatus talvella. Siirtotallit ovat edullinen talliratkaisu, mutta niiden ongelmana on rehuvarasto- ja valjashuonetilojen puuttuminen.

Saamamme teoria- ja käytännöntiedon pohjalta olemme jo kehittäneet ja tulemme myös jatkossa kehittämään omia tallejamme. Varsinkin pihattoratkaisu valmennettavalle hevoselle vaikuttaa hyvältä vaihtoehdolta perinteisen tallin lisäksi. Jokaisen harrastajan on mietittävä mikä ratkaisu on hänen tallilleen ja hevosilleen sopivin. Työtä tehdessämme kaipasimme tarkempaa tutkimustietoa hevosten liikkumisesta öisin, katoksien käytöstä ja hevosten kylmän kestävyydestä.

In this Thesis we examined the suitability of small open fronted shelters, portable stables and outdoor horse shelters for horses to live in – either as a solely solution or as an extra space. Our purpose is to improve the stables of our own as well as provide information with other devotees. The purpose of alternative stable solutions and outdoor horse shelters are to reduce the indoor season, which is very important from horse’s health point of view and to ease the daily care and get some extra space with low cost.

We studied the species characteristic behaviour and welfare. We also studied the regulations for stable building, environment and regulations for prevention of cruelty to animals. We familiarized ourselves with earlier researches associated with the topic. We collected practical knowledge by interviewing veterinarians, different professionals in horse management and the manufacturers and dealers of outdoor horse shelters.

In developing different kind of stable solutions the most important thing is welfare of the horse. A possibility for free and plenty movement will improve health of a horse. The building regulations are good to find out locally, since they vary a lot between different municipalities. The open-fronted shelters and outdoor horse shelters provide with possibility for a horse to move more but do not usually work as a solely solution, since there will be the problem with washing and drying of a horse in training. Portable shelter is an inexpensive solution but there is the problem with lack of space for feed and harness.

We have and will develop our own stables according to the theory and practical information we achieved during this process. Particularly an open-fronted shelter for a horse in training seems to be a good alternative along with a traditional stable. Each devotee must carefully think about the best possible solution for his stable and horses. While preparing our Thesis we desired more specific research information on horse’s behaviour during nights, the practical experiences of shelters and cold tolerance of a horse.
