Tiivistelmä
The major objective of this thesis is to compose a concise, reliable and useful write up of the current situation in the food and beverage departments in the care homes for the elder-ly. The author thought it necessary to conduct a study on this topic and further recommend actions that can be implemented in order to improve the overall situation in this field espe-cially in light of future prospects for the care sector. The project process has focused on obtaining information from the actual inspections and interviews held within the care homes themselves. The author’s experience was also very beneficial throughout this work. This was doubly important in those cases where the author had difficulty obtaining information.
The author used a qualitative approach to gather information for this thesis. Information was also obtained from sources and that were referenced, using the Harvard style as the refer-encing tool. The timing to conduct this work and the writing of this thesis took more than 10 months as the work started from the initial stages of this degree course.
