Tiivistelmä
The aim of this thesis was to conduct a feasibility study on drone logistic flights in the Seinäjoki business area. Drones are rather a new technology in the field of logistics. They will, however, be part of tomorrow’s logistic opportunities and solutions. This thesis answers the question whether drone logistic flights would be feasible in the area under study.
The literature review looks at the history, technology, and the business opportunities of drones. Three different research data collection methods were used: workshops, an online survey, and semi-structured interviews.
The results were analysed from different point of views: what are the possible ways to use drones, what are the challenges of drone logistics, and the interest among the participants in the workshops in piloting drone logistics through a joint group project. In addition, a SWOT analysis and a business model canvas of drone logistics were made based on the results.
As a conclusion, this study shows that the Seinäjoki business area is a potential site for piloting drone logistic flights. Many companies and other parties from various fields of business are willing to invest time and effort in the piloting.
