Strategic planning can be seen as one of the actors or principals part of businesses that ensmes the survival of an organization. It has become much more impmiant to create new businesses and to improve the existing ones. ln order to achieve the quality standard of the business either small or conglomerate, a well-formulated strategic planning is needed to put in place. Therefore, formulating the strategic planning for a bl1siness helps in the area of competitive advantage over other businesses. Formulation of strategic planning serves as foundation which an organisation based its mission and goal upon. The primary aim of a business is to satisfy its customer; meanwhile this may not be possible if the business ovv"I1ers failed to plan. This is why most of the business organisations are eager to become more business driven and customer focused. In the same vein, this is the major reason why this thesis focuses on the area of strategic planning for short and long term benefits. The case study company is a small business organisation which deals with selling African and Asian food. It operates its business in the heart of Helsinki in Finland.
In this research work, theories and explanation were carried out 111 order to broaden the scope of using planning for small business' survival. It analyzed the strategic making for business, strategic process and performance:. importance of small businesses. how to have a good mission for businesses and financial planning aspect was not left out. The thesis used a ql1cstionnaire and oral intervil'.w for gathering information on how the case study company could survive the turbulence that at times befall small businesses. At the encl of the research it was revealed by various customers of Maharaja's shop that they were all satisfied with the current situation but few customers also raised the areas that ought to improve such as royalty discount card and extension of shop to other regions.
