Tiivistelmä
Tiivistelmä
Tässä opinnäytetyössä tutkittiin ikääntyneiden vajaaravitsemusta. 86 % kotihoidon yli 75 vuotiaista asiakkaista on vajaaravittuja tai vajaaravitsemuksen riskissä. Opinnäytetyö sisältää tietoa ikääntyneen ravitsemuksen arvioinnista ja hoidosta sekä vajaaravitsemuksen riskin huomioimista eri sairauksista. Opinnäytetyö vastaa Ylä-Savon SOTE kuntayhtymästä Vieremän kotihoidon esimieheltä tulleeseen kehittämisideaan.
Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin kehittämistyönä, jossa teoria koostettiin oppaaksi. Oppaan pohjalta pidettiin koulutustilaisuus Vieremän kotihoidon henkilökunnalle. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli tukea Vieremän kotihoidon henkilökunnan osaamista asiakkaiden vajaaravitsemuksen hoidossa.
Opinnäytetyössä on hyödynnetty valtion ravitsemusneuvottelukunnan julkaisuja. Opinnäytetyö sisältää runsaasti tutkimustietoa ikääntyneiden ravitsemuksesta, vajaaravitsemuksen tunnistamisesta, ennaltaehkäisystä ja hoidosta. Ikääntyneiden kotona asuminen sujuu paremmin ravitsemustilan ollessa hyvä. Hyvällä ravitsemuksella tuetaan ikääntyneiden terveyttä, kykyä toimia päivittäisissä toiminnoissaan ja ylläpitää omaa elämänlaatuaan.
Opinnäytetyön jatkokehittämisideana voitaisiin jatkossa tutkia kotihoidon ulkopuolelle jäävien ikääntyneiden ravitsemusta. Vajaaravitsemuksen ennaltaehkäisyn huomioimista voitaisiin tukea toiminnallisilla opinnäytetöillä koulutustilaisuuksina, joita järjestettäisiin kolmannen sektorin järjestöille. Abstract
This thesis deals with the malnutrition of elderly people. 86% of the home care service customers that are older than 75 years are suffering from malnutrition or in the risk of suffering from malnutrition. The thesis includes information about how to estimate the level of nutrition and how to treat malnutrition. In addition, the thesis provides information on how to take different base diseases into account when treating malnutrition. The thesis was made at the request of the superior of the home care services of the municipality of Vieremä in Ylä-Savon SOTE Joint Municipal Authority.
The thesis was conducted as a development work in which theory was compiled to a guidebook. Based on the guidebook a training session was held for employees of the homecare services. The aim of the thesis was to support the employees’ ability to treat customers in cases of malnutrition.
This thesis uses the governmental nutrition advisory board publications as source of information.
The thesis contains a lot of information from studies of nutritional condition of elderly people, identifying malnutrition condition, how to prevent and how to treat malnutrition condition. When nutritional conditions are in balance then also living home for elderly people is easier. Well-rounded nutrition contributes to maintaining good overall state of health and ability to manage daily tasks, and to keeping up the quality of life of elderly people.
A topic for further study based on this work could be to research malnutrition conditions of people who are outside of homecare services. Observing prevention of malnutrition conditions could be supported with a thesis that contains educational training sessions which could be arranged for third sector organizations.
