Tutkimuksen tuloksissa esitimme kehitysideoita mittarin käytön optimointiin, joihin tilaajalla on mahdollisuus vaikuttaa. Tutkimuksessa ilmeni ohjaajien toiveita mittarin sisällön tarkentamiseen, sillä tutkimuksen mukaan mittari sisälsi kohderyhmälle hankalasti ymmärrettäviä sanoja ja ilmauksia eikä mittarin avulla pystynyt arvioimaan asukaskuntaan kuuluvien päihdekuntoutujien toimintakykyä. The purpose of our study was to describe experiences of TUVA®-functional ability meter’s usefulness and usability from employees' point of view that use the meter in their work in Työterapinen yhdistys ry, which provides support for housing, service housing and enhanced service housing for adult mental health and substance abuse rehabilitation patients. The aim of the study was to get concrete information on how employees make use in practise of the data produced by TUVA®-functional ability meter and if they considered the meter useful and appropriate. Based on the report the client has also an opportunity to have a clear vision whether the meter brings desired added value to the mental health and substance abuse work in housing service units of the association. Based on the results from the study we presented ideas to the client for optimizing the meter usage.
This thesis was a qualitative study. As a method for collecting the data we used a group interview involving four employees from two different housing service units of Työterapinen yhdistys ry. The employees worked as instructors and they had education in social and health care as well as experience in mental health and substance abuse work. The client organisation of the thesis was Työterapinen yhdistys ry, which provides support for housing, service housing and enhanced service housing for adult mental health and substance abuse rehabilitation patients in Kuopio region as well as in Varkaus. Content of the services and form of residence are defined by the need for support of the resident.
The results of the study compose of external factors influencing user experiences as well as user experiences that result from the content of the meter. The main factor that emerged externally influencing user experiences was time, which included how often the meter was updated as well as the ratio between the time required and the time arranged for use. In addition, other factors contributing to the user experiences that the study revealed were internal practices of the workplace, usability, the realism of evaluation of the functional capability and need for support as measured by the meter as well as enabling and empowering residents to participate in their own treatment. In the results of the study we presented development ideas for optimizing the use of the meter, which the client organization has an opportunity to influence. The study revealed the employees' wishes to refine the content of the meter as the study showed that the meter contained phrases and words difficult to understand to the target group, and the meter was unable to evaluate the functional capacity of the substance abuser residents.
