Tiivistelmä
Vuorovaikutuksella on useita määritelmiä.
Abstract
There is a variety of definitions for the term interaction. In general, it is defined by physical presence of at least two people. Parenting is an interaction process between an adult and a child. After birth, the child actively seeks interaction and tries to regulate his or her own behavior with the surrounding environment. Interaction and attachment with parents are necessary for the child´s survival. The interaction that arises between a child and a parent develops a relationship. Often this relationship is the first in child’s life and serves as a starting point for other relationships.
Parenting involves growth and development as well as present and safe adulthood. Adulthood in parenting means that the needs and feelings of the child are taken into account. Those needs and feelings are heard and seen and then reacted by responding. Life with a child can be described as a creative process, yet parents provide the basis for the child´s worldview and values.
This thesis was implemented as a development work. The purpose was to organize an event that supports the interaction between a parent and a child. The event was carried out in cooperation with the Finnish welfare company Voimanpesä. At the event, parent-child interaction was approached in the form of activities involving means of interaction. Information about the interaction at the event was shared through touch, music and visual art methods.
The goal of the work was to increase the interaction between parents and children and to support the development of interaction. The event was planned for 1-5-year-old children and their parents. The event also aimed to create a low threshold-event, where participants would be warmly welcome and both parents and children would be taken into account. In addition, the goal of the development work was to utilize the event and the feedback it received as part of the Voimanpesä company’s services. The target was also to make the Voimanpesä familiar to the families and to map parents´ need for similar kind of events and other welfare services.
The topic of this event is also a choice for further research, but instead of one event, it is set to be a course with multiple gatherings. That would also make possible to collect feedback on each section of the course. Another idea for further research could be an event, which concerns early interaction and parents with baby still on the way. The previous concept could also work on a bit older children or maybe even teenagers and their parents.
