This degree thesis consists of two parts. In the first part the intention is to find answer to the topics in this thesis by theory and previous research and in the second part to present the process of the product, the tactile picture book. The theoretical framework consists of the importance of senses for children with visual impairment, to interpret tactile picture books and the social pedagogic concept of empowerment in theory and practice. The purpose of this thesis is to create a product that takes into consideration the tactile sense of children with visual impairment. The intention is also to describe the process of making a tactile picture book as fully as possible in order to inspire those who are interested in making one. The research questions in this thesis are: What impact does stimulating of senses have when reading for children with visual impairment? How can you create a product that takes into consideration the tactile sense of children with vis-ual impairment? What is the process of creating a product in this case a tactile picture book? The target group is children aged 5 to 8 years with visual impairment. The work is part of a quality of life project and the Celia library located in Itäkeskus, Helsinki, acts as the principal. The production of the tactile picture book will follow the recommen-dations included in the brochure:” Guide to those who make tactile picture books” pre-pared by Irmeli Holstein in 2011. Strong color contrasts, different materials and sustainability are the cornerstones of a well made and good tactile picture book.
